Orford
It was the last of five straight road games to start the season for the Panthers (1-4). The Raptors dropped to 0-5.
Fukushima gave up four hits and walked only one, but two runners scored for Thetford that had reached on errors.
The Panthers received their own strong pitching performance from freshman Seth Boyce, who struck out six, walked three and gave up two hits in six innings.
Erik Lindahl struck out two and gave up one hit for the save.
“Being a little more than a quarter of the way through the season, it feels good to get that first win,” Panthers coach Phil Chaput said. “(The Raptors) threw their ace at us and he pitched a heck of a game. We were just able to get some timely hits.”
Thetford didn’t need a hit to score its first run, with Alden Nichols stealing home while the Raptors were trying to get Nick Moses out in a pickle.
“We actually scored that way against Harwood, too,” Chaput said. “It feels a lot better to do it in a winning effort.”
Jack Sweet reached on a one-out error in the sixth, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Finbar Curtain. Curtain came in on a triple by Connor Brown with two outs.
Colin Gould and Charlie Bradley had two hits apiece for the Raptors, who are back at home against Williamstown on Monday.
The Panthers finally play their home opener Tuesday against Randolph.
South Royalton
Mistakes cost both teams, the Royals giving up an early lead thanks in part to a pair of dropped fly balls before they tied it on a Red Devils dropped pop fly in the fifth.
“There were a couple of miscues here and there, but other than that it was a good high school game,” Royals coach Mike Ballou said. “The weather was great and it was a one-run game the whole game. What more can you ask for?”
Dalton McDougall stood out at the plate and on the mound, hitting a triple and scoring in the first inning while striking out 10 with four hits, one earned run and two walks in a complete game.
Dominick Small had an RBI single and Andy Moore went 2-for-3 for the Royals, who visit Twinfield on Thursday.
Fair Haven, Vt.
Tyler Hamilton (2-for-3, triple, two RBIs, four runs), Hunter Perkins (2-for-5, double, three RBIs), and Dylan Spencer (3-for-4, RBI) were the bastions at the plate for Hartford. Spencer was also strong on the mound, striking out nine with two walks and five hits allowed in 5 innings.
Hartford hosts Lyndon on Tuesday.

Oxbow visits Harwood on Tuesday.
Whitingham, Vt.
White River Junction
Emily Ballou (two triples, three RBIs) and Elizabeth Greenan (two RBIs) both went 2-for-4 for Hartford.
Sarah Kohl had two RBIs on a pair of hits and Mackenzie Cutting cranked a double for Hanover.
Brooke Hurd walked five but allowed just three hits and struck out four in six innings for the Hurricanes, who led 10-4 entering the seventh.
Rachel Loseby (hit, two runs, walk) closed out the game in the circle for Hartford.
Becca Wilson allowed nine hits and two walks with one strikeout for the Marauders, who play the first of three straight home games Thursday against John Stark.
Orford
Jordan Mousley and Maddie Kingsbury also joined in on Thetford’s party at the plate, each going 5-for-6 with a home run and a double.
Horniak had one strikeout and two walks.
Thetford plays its home opener Tuesday against Randolph. Rivendell is 0-3.
Whitingham, Vt.
Woodstock cranked nine hits, including two each from Heather Blanchard (double, two RBI) and Maddie Moore.
In the circle, Moore struck out seven and allowed eight hits and three walks.
Woodstock hosts West Rutland on Monday.
Ludlow, Vt.
Whitchester started freshman Amelia Mattrick, who gave up four runs in just one-third of an inning before giving way to Laura Vaillancourt (10 strikeouts, no walks, seven hits, five runs).
Avery Palmer and Mattrick both went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Kayla Townsend was 1-for-4 with a three-RBI triple and Michaela Sterling was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Manchester, Vt.
Jonas Kantola and Lucas Piconi each scored twice while Jack Arthur, Jackson Wood, Cullen McCarthy, Danile Robinson and Patrick Potter all had one goal.
Wood (2), Arthur and McCarthy added assists.
Coleman McKaig stopped 20 shots for Woodstock, which plays the first of three straight home games Monday against South Burlington.
Woodstock
Nikki Sweeny added two goals and Grace Vosburgh, Kallan Piconi Abby Kaija and Lily Doton tallied one score each for Woodstock (2-3). Megan Dalton made eight saves for the Wasps, who visit U-32 on Monday.
Windsor
Hamilton, a senior, won the 1,500-meter run (5:24.39) while placing second in both the 800 and 3,000 for the Hurricanes.
Ileana Sirois won both the 100 hurdles (17:10) and triple jump (32-03) for Hartford, and was on its winning 4×100 relay team.
Julia Anderson was second in both the shot put (29-00) and discus (104-05) for the Canes behind Windsor’s Katey Comstock.
Comstock heaved the shot put 37-06 and the discus 121-10 while also winning the javelin (104-00) for the third-place Yellowjackets.
Woodstock placed second, led by wins from Anna Dieffenbach in the 100 hurdles (17.89), high jump (4-10) and long jump (15-02.5).
The Wasps’ 4×400 relay team of Anna Hepler, Hailey Napier, Claire Saunders and Grace Vollers was also victorious (4:55.85).
Oxbow placed fourth with wins by Hannah Giesing in the 400 (1:03.7) and 800 (2:39.49), Leanne Burgess in the 3,000 (12:23.70) and Emily Carson in the 300 hurdles (55.43).
The 4×800 relay team of Emily McClain, Sarah Dunkle, Aliza George and Alexandra Armstrong won for seventh-place South Royalton. Armstrong added a victory in the pole vault (6-06).
Hartford placed second on the boys side, with two wins apiece coming from Devon Martin (200, 23.93; 400, 54.62) and Matthew Phipps (1500, 4:31.74; 3000, 19:12.18). Martin was also second in the 100.
Abayomi Lowe won the 200 in 24.44 and Callum Brittain was second in the 800 and third in the 1,500 for Hurricanes.
Woodstock’s boys placed third, with Bill Wood capturing the long jump (20-05) and 100 (11.55) while placing third in the 110 hurdles.
The Wasps’ 4×100 relay team of Charlie Amato, Adam Farinas, Robert Grots and Evan Hotchkiss won in 48.09. Hotchkiss added a runner up finish in the 400.
William Wuttke won the triple jump (34-06) for fourth-place South Royalton while Julio Lopez captured the 100 hurdles for fifth-place Thetford.
Host Windsor placed sixth with a number of podium finishes, including Daniel Dexter’s runner up in the 100 hurdles.
Oxbow was seventh, its 4×800 relay team of Evan Flaherty, Skyler Ladd, Willy Moreno and Jon Puffer coming out on top. Puffer added a win in the pole vault (10-06).
Northfield, Mass.
The duos of Ryan/Greenspan and Sam Vocatura/Gregory-Davis won in doubles for KUA (6-0).
