Killington, Vt. — After a tough opening hole, Sam Kamel bounced back in a big way for the Rivendell Academy golf team.

Kamel double bogeyed on the first hole after topping his first two shots, but settled in for a four-over-par 40 on the front nine at Green Mountain National Golf Course as the Raptors won their season opener.

“He really bounced back mentally,” said Rivendell coach Justin Bonnett. “He stuck to his game plan not to use any drivers and it paid off for him.”

Jacob Perkins (49), Jake Kamel (54) and Tanner Siemons (58) also had strong rounds to help Rivendell win the the three team meet hosted by Mill River.

Team scores: Rivendell 201, Burr & Burton 205, Mill River 226.

BaseballWoodsville 12, Lin-Wood 2

Woodsville — Every player in Woodsville’s lineup scored a run against Lin-Wood as the Engineers jumped to 5-2.

Jaret Bemis had two hits, three runs, three RBIs, two stolen bases and a home run, Cooper Davidson added two triples and two RBIs and Jordan Clark added two hits, a run and two RBIs. Seanon May pitched 5 innings, giving up three hits, two earned runs and six strikeouts.

Woodsville will host Lisbon on Monday.

Sunapee 12, Nute 0 (5)

Milton, n.h. — Cole Cruz pitched a five-inning complete game with nine strikeouts, one hit and two walks in the shutout.

Mike Platt scored four runs, adding a double and three RBIs. Cruz helped himself with a hit, two runs and four stolen bases. Kier Lucas had a hit and an RBI and Lane Smith added two runs for the Lakers.

“I was really pleased with the way we played,” Sunapee head coach Tom Frederick said. “We ran the bases well, executed on offense. Cole was dialed in through the entire game.”

Sunapee (5-1) will host Newport on Monday.

Poultney 9, Woodstock 2

Poultney, Vt. — The Wasps (0-3) led, 2-1, after the top of the fourth inning, only to surrender eight runs in the bottom half of the frame.

Owen Tarleton (2-for-3) doubled and went to third on a wild pitch before coming in on a safety-squeeze single laid down by Joe Bianchi to tie it, 1-1.

Bianchi later came home on a fielder’s choice hit by Kyle Weirwether.

Tarleton (no walks, one strikeout, four hits) got the loss for Woodstock, which is back at it today at Twin Valley.

Stevens 6, Franklin 5 (8)

Franklin, n.h. — The Golden Tornadoes scored on a controversial play at home plate to hand Stevens its third loss of the year.

The Cardinals walked seven and hit a batter on its way to the loss, blowing a 4-0 lead heading into the third inning. Franklin scored five runs to retake the lead before Hayden Cahill drove in the tying run in the bottom of the sixth. Login Barry, Drew Grenier and Ryan Napsey all split time on the mound.

“We have to throw more strikes,” Stevens head coach Paul Silva said. “We can’t win games taking that many walks.”

Stevens (2-3) will host Fall Mountain on Monday.

SoftballSunapee 21, Nute 0 (5)

Milton, n.h. — The Lakers built a 10-0 lead by the end of the second inning, then exploded for 11 more in the fifth to stay undefeated.

Katie Frederick and Faith Larpenter combined for nine strikeouts in the shutout. Megan Frederick had three hits, including one triple, two RBIs and four runs scored, Katie Frederick had four hits, two doubles, and two RBIs, and Lexie Hamilton had a three-run home run in the second inning, scoring three times and adding four RBIs.

Sunapee (6-0) will host Newport on Monday.

Woodsville 12, Lin-Wood 0

Woodsville — Alyssa Prest and Tori Clough combined for a no-hitter in Woodsville’s fifth win of the season.

Prest had 10 strikeouts in five innings, allowing three walks. Nikita Duling had two hits and three RBIs, Kyleigh Lamarre had two hits, one double, two runs and two RBIs and Clough had one double and an RBI. The Engineers combined for seven runs in the fifth and six innings.

Woodsville (5-2) will host Lisbon on Monday.

 Boys LacrosseLebanon 25, Manchester West 2

Manchester — The Raiders (2-2) got back to .500 in an emphatic way.

Responding to Tuesday’s 10-goal loss to ConVal, the Raiders erupted for 19 goals in the first half of the lopsided win.

Nate Damren led the way with nine goals, with four assists. Michael Fleury added two goals, four assists, Jordan Hammond had five goals and Jeremy Corbin scored three times with an assist for the Raiders (2-2).

Lebanon led 19-1 at halftime.

“We had an opportunity to really work our offense,” Lebanon coach Lochrane Gary said. “We had lots of off-ball movement, play execution and teamwork.”

The Raiders’ defense was equally effective.

“We kept (the Blue Knights) away from the cage and managed to have many takeaways,” the coach added.

Jack Sandmann scored twice for Lebanon, while Aaron Damren (assist), Nate Chickering, Taylor Williams and Luke Sandmann added one goal each. Ethan Didehbani contributed two assists. Behind the Raiders’ staunch defense, Bryan Albright made five saves.

Stratton Mtn. 9, Hartford 8

Quechee — The visitors posted the winning goal with 47 seconds remaining in regulation as the Hurricanes dipped to 2-2.

Kyle Prior, Reece Thompson, and Gavin Shropshire all scored twice for the Canes, while Nate Lemieux had three assists, Andrew Daley and Ben Rouillard scored one goal each and Andrew Knight had an assist.

Chris Dorain made eight saves for Hartford.

Coe-Brown 16, Stevens 1

Northwood, n.h. — The Cardinals fell to 1-4.

Donovan Putnam scored the lone goal for Stevens, getting on the board in the second half.

Scott Foisy made 16 saves for the Cardinals.

“The score could have been a lot worse if it weren’t for him,” said Stevens coach Jed Hart.

Girls LacrosseKimball Union 12, Proctor 11

Meriden — KUA erased a 3-1 deficit by halftime, and held on to a six-goal lead in the second half.

Proctor cut the Wildcats’ lead to one goal with six seconds left, but couldn’t tie it up. Maisie O’Shea led KUA with five goals and one assist. Maddy Gesner, Kelsie Worth and Aurora Braswell all scored two goals each. Mikah Baptiste scored her first varsity goal.

Derryfield 21, Lebanon 10

Lebanon — The Raiders (2-1) lost for the first time this season.

Kendra MacDonald had four goals and an assist, Elle Brine scored twice and Clara Cole and Caroline Wren had one goal each for Lebanon.

Goalie Elizabeth Jones made seven saves for the Raiders, who visit Belmont on Monday.

Brattleboro 18, Hartford 5

Brattleboro, Vt. — Caitlin Gaudet scored scored twice as the Hurricanes fell to Vermont Division I Brattleboro.

Alice Dwyer, Shayla Prior and Kaylee Williams had one goal each. Michaela Ricker had two assists. Victoria Stevenson and Jaden Sanborn split time in goal and combined for 12 saves.

Hartford will host Randolph on Monday.

Boys TennisBrattleboro 6, Woodstock 1

Woodstock — No. 1 singles player Ray Kurek (6-1, 7-5) earned the lone win for the Wasps, who dipped to 2-3. “Brattleboro was the best team we’ve played so far this year,” Woodstock coach Bill Miles said.

Burr & Burton 7, Hartford 0

Manchester, Vt. — Riley Kehoe lost a close match 4-6, 4-6 as the Hurricanes remain winless. Hartford (0-6) will play a doubleheader vs. Fair Haven on Wednesday.

Girls TennisHanover 8, Coe-Brown 1

Hanover — The Marauders (4-0) kept rolling in their final season in NHIAA Division II.

Hanover, winners of back-to-back undefeated state championship seasons, is moving to D-I next season.

Rine Uhm (8-2), Izzi Davis (8-0), Ellem Lamm (8-3), Mindy Wu (8-0) and Grace Li (8-3) earned singles wins for Hanover against the Bears.

Coe-Brown’s Meg Wimsatt edged Hanover’s Emma Riessen at No. 6 singles, 8-5, handing the Marauders their first individual match loss of the year.

Uhm-Davis (8-2), Lamm-Wu (8-0) and Li-Riessen responded with a doubles sweep for Hanover, which visits Bishop Brady on Monday.

Mt. Anthony 6, Woodstock 1

Bennington, Vt. — Emma King and Elise Geschardt earned Woodstock’s lone win at No. 2 doubles as the Wasps suffered their first loss of the season.

Three different matches went to extra sets, including Haley Ulisiton at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 2-6, 5-10, Morgan Hartman at No. 2 singles 3-6, 6-3, 9-11, and Katey MacMaster and Chloe Noble at No. 1 doubles 6-4, 4-6, 5-10.

Woodstock (4-1) will host Bellows Falls on Monday.
