Meriden, N.H. — Elaine L. Soucy, 63, born Dec. 14, 1953, in Lebanon, N.H. to Jane and Milford Illsley, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Brookside Nursing Home. She was there for short term rehab. She leaves her beloved husband of 37 years, Daniel Soucy. She was a great animal lover. She had a passion for antique cars with her husband. She graduated from Lebanon High School. Elaine started her “work life” at the age of 15 as a car hop at the A&W, spent years later at the “Super Duper”, both on the Miracle Mile in Lebanon. Her dream was to have a store. Dan and Elaine started the “Soucy Mini Mart” and Meriden Garage in 1979. Elaine’s love for people showed in her daily contact with her customers. She also ran a consignment shop in their plaza.

Elaine is the youngest of seven siblings. Brother, Wayne Illsley of Claremont, N.H., sisters Joyce Evans of Hendersonville, N.C., Dorothy Hutchins of Quechee, Vt., Barbara and husband, Gerald Huston of Pueblo, Colo., Alice and husband, David Best of Northwood, N.H. (Formerly of Meriden). She leaves four nieces and seven nephews; several great-nieces and nephews; a sister-in-law, Becky Flynn; cousins and many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and infant brother David. Elaine put up a strong struggle against years of Diabetes, kidney failure and blindness.

Family and friends are invited to a calling hour at the Meriden Baptist church on Saturday, April 23, 2016, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. A funeral will begin at 2 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in the Mill Cemetery.

Her wishes were that donations be made in her memory to the Upper Valley Humane Society, 300 Old Route 10, Enfield, NH 03748.
