The Staying Power of Hate

When will the hate end? North Carolina, Mississippi, Tennessee, and mostly likely Arkansas next — claiming that their citizens’ religious freedom merits denying LGBTQ folks their basic human and constitutional rights. Even the most fundamental right to use a bathroom without fear of harassment, discrimination or humiliation — not to mention having to “prove” your gender to legislators who otherwise don’t care two cents for you. The hateful and bigoted comments from candidates during the presidential campaigns are making a mockery of the Bill of Rights and the “liberty and justice for all” part of the Pledge of Allegiance. Hypocrisy and hostility to “the other” are the standards of our country now, endorsed by elected officials.
