The connection worked in the bottom of the eighth inning, as Blakeney’s two-out single brought Rozumek home from third base to give Woodstock an 8-7 win in its season opener.
The Wasps scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to force the extra inning. For Hoisington, it was the kind of resiliency she was looking for.
“We made some first-game errors,” Hoisington said. “But we got better as the game progressed.”
Junior pitcher Madison Moore threw all eight innings and fanned six. Blakeney scored three runs. Hannah Reali, Heather Blanchard and Carissa Kinsman also scored for the Wasps.
Woodstock (1-0) will host Hartford a week from today.
Bradford, Vt.
Fornwalt had a home run and a single, while Giesing had a pair of triples. Corrina Oakley was 2-for-3 with a double, and Hanzas singled. Mary Bourgeois started in the circle and went five innings, allowing no runs. Fornwalt pitched the last two innings and surrendered an unearned run.
Oxbow is off until April 22 when it hosts Lake Region.
Wilton, n.h.
Lexie Hamilton (3-for-4) and Katie Frederick (2-for-3) both drove in a pair of runs, Hannah Cooney went 2-for-4 and Faith Larpenter had a hit and an RBI for Sunapee. Frederick did her part in the circle as well, throwing a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts and three walks.
Sunapee visits Derryfield on Friday.
Woodsville
Prest struck out six and walked two while allowing five earned runs. Tori Clough added an inning of relief. Catcher Nikita Duling led the attack offensively for the Engineers, finishing 2-for-4 day with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Dee Martin was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
“This was a good learning experience for us. They’re a very experienced team and played like it,” Woodsville coach Dana Huntington said.
The Engineers (1-1) host Profile on Friday.
Meriden
Shea Rulon doubled and Coombs singled as Kimball Union threatened in the first inning, but both were left stranded. Caitlin Beneat had KUA’s only other hit.
The Wildcats (1-1) are off until a rematch at Tilton on April 23.

Woodsville
Ty Brown led the attack at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Mike Dennis and Seanon May each went 3-for-3; May scored twice and drove in two, and Dennis scored once. Jordan Clark reached base four times on a base hit and three walks and came around to score two runs.
Pitcher Seth Hannett started and went three innings, striking out four. Zach Moore pitched the last three innings, striking out three while allowing one unearned run. The win marks a nice comeback from a season-opening 10-3 loss to Littleton on Monday.
“It’s a great turnaround after the first game,” Woodsville coach Brent Cox said. “We worked on the things we needed to work on, and it was a great team effort on defense.”
The Engineers host Profile on Friday.
Bradford, Vt.
Eddie White took a tough-luck loss for Oxbow, pitching 6 ⅔ innings with nine strikeouts while allowing three runs on five hits. The Blue Devils scored two runs in the top of the seventh to break a 2-2 deadlock.
Oxbow battles Lake Region on Tuesday in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

“Our pitching did their job; we got ground balls. We just played like we didn’t know what the game was in the first inning,” Mascoma coach Guy Serviss said.
Tyler Findley pitched the first four innings for the Royals, striking out five while allowing just five singles and two walks. Dylan Mulherin added two innings of relief with three strikeouts. Micah McCullough had a single in his varsity debut. Ethan Brueckner also had a base hit.
Mascoma (0-1) looks to turn things around when they host Laconia on Friday.

Cole Cruz went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Lakers. Will Austin had a hit and drove in a run, and Mike Platt accounted for the Lakers’ other run.
“First day out,” Sunapee coach Tom Frederick said. “We could have used more time on the field, but overall it was a decent day.”
Ben Robinson didn’t allow an earned run in taking the loss for Sunapee, which visits Derryfield on Friday.
Chelsea, Vt.
Essex Junction, Vt.
Allen won the boys long jump by leaping 18 feet, 11.75 inches. He also placed runner-up in the 100-meter dash in 12.57 seconds, just behind Essex’s Chike Asanya. Liam Walker brought in second-place points in the 200 dash (26.96), finishing behind Asanya.
Whitcomb’s girls grabbed a victory with the quartet of Molly LaFramboise, Shai Palmer, Zoe McCormack and Gwen Timmins taking the 400 relay in 1:05.24.

Stevens returns to the road to visit Manchester West on Friday.
New Hampton, n.h.
Maisie O’Shea led KUA (1-1) with three goals. Aurora Braswell added two goals. Kelsie Wood had a strong game on draw controls. KUA battled back to within a goal with 18 minutes left before a late Huskies run spelled the end of any comeback hopes.
KUA hosts Brewster Academy on Saturday.

Christina Ryan (6-1, 6-2), Hana Caloras (6-2, 6-2), Kelly Do (6-2, 6-3), Sam Vocatura (6-2, 6-0), Erin Gregory-Davis (6-0, 6-0) and Charlotte Greenspan (6-0, 6-1) all won in singles.
Ryan and Greenspan added an 8-0 victory in doubles. Vocatura/Ella Malone and Do/Gregory-Davis each won, 8-2.
KUA hosts Phillips Exeter on Saturday.

Colby-Sawyer led 7-1 into the fourth inning of the first game on the strength of two-run doubles by Brendan Thurber and Jeff Dunn along with a pair of RBI singles by Nathan Frongillo.
Andrew Pratt added an RBI on a fielder’s choice. Castleton came back with two runs in the sixth and four in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 7-7 and force extra innings.
Nick Swim led Castleton in game two with three hits and three RBIs.
Colby-Sawyer’s Mike Bowse took the loss, tossing five innings while giving up six runs (four earned).
