Newport — Larry McElreavy is stepping down as Newport High’s football coach, according to school officials.

“It was his decision,” Newport Athletic Director Jeff Miller said in an interview. “I couldn’t have asked for a better coach the past two years.”

McElreavy led the Tigers to a NHIAA D-III championship with an undefeated record last season.
