Fort Myers, Fla. — Brian Dozier’s first-pitch home run and another shot by Miguel Sano just five pitches later set the tone as the Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 6-2 Tuesday in a rain-shortened game.

Kurt Suzuki also homered for the Twins and Hanley Ramirez got two hits for Boston before the game was stopped with one out in the bottom of the seventh.

Sano got three hits and drove in three runs.

Dozier and Trever Plouffe each had two hits.

Twins left-hander Tommy Milone went six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks.

Red Sox starter Joe Kelly went four innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks.

The Red Sox scored twice in the third after Mookie Betts and Brock Holt hit one-out singles and moved up on a wild pitch. Chris Young had a sacrifice fly and Ramirez had an RBI single.

Harvey on Track for Mets

Port St. Lucie, Fla. — New York Mets ace Matt Harvey remains on track to start Sunday night’s opener at Kansas City after passing a blood clot in his bladder.

“I guess it started with a bladder infection that created a blood clot in the bladder,” Harvey said Tuesday. “Passed it yesterday. It wasn’t a great first day of my 27th birthday, but I cleared that and we had a little procedure done this morning just to go in and check the bladder, and everything was clear. I’m cleared to go, cleared to do some minor activities today, and then we’ll be back to normal tomorrow.”

He started to feel discomfort Sunday and said it worsened through the night.

Harvey reported the issue to Mets staff on Monday and he was the lone player not to travel to Jupiter, Fla., for an exhibition game against St. Louis.

Cubs Release Victorino

Mesa, Ariz. — The Chicago Cubs have released veteran outfielder Shane Victorino and will put utilityman Javier Baez on the 15-day disabled list.

The Cubs said Tuesday that they will allot their final roster spots to pitcher Neil Ramirez, infielder Tommy La Stella and outfielder Matt Szczur.

Victorino, infielder Munenori Kawasaki and left-handed reliever Manny Parra have been released. They were in camp on minor league contracts.

“Everything is kind of place,” manager Joe Maddon said.

Baez has a left thumb contusion and Maddon said the team isn’t certain he’s completely healed.

The fact that second baseman Ben Zobrist “can play all over the place helps a lot,” Maddon said. Also, “Tommy La Stella is really good coming off the bench.”

The Cubs open the season April 4 at the Los Angeles Angels.
