Inverness, Fla. — Kenneth (Ken) Jacob Harrison Murphy, 92, formerly of Quechee Vt., passed peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Pleasant Grove Assisted Living Home in Inverness.

He was born April 20, 1923, to the late Julian and Emily (Kibler) Murphy. He grew up in Hartland Vt. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served three years in WWII. He married Virginia Hughes Dec. 14, 1946.

They lived in several places including Woodstock, North Hartland, Hartland, and Quechee. He bought what is known as the Murphy Farm in Quechee in 1965 and lived there till they moved to Florida.

Ken was a well-known businessman in the Upper Valley owning and operating Woodstock Farm Supply, Murphy Gravel and Construction, Murphy Equipment and Murphy Outdoor Products. He loved to travel with his family.

Ken was predeceased by his brother Julian; a sister Orvilla and a sister Priscilla; a son, Reginald J. Murphy; and a grandson Kenneth (Kenny) Murphy.

He is survived by his wife, Ginny; a son, Malcolm Murphy of Inverness; a son Michael Murphy and his wife Kelly of Enfield, N.H.; and a daughter Kimberely Murphy of Inverness; a brother Jack of Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

There will be no calling hours. Charles E. Davis Funeral Home and Crematory in Inverness, Fla., is in charge of arrangements. Ken will be buried at the Veterans Cemetery in Bushnell, Fla.
