Grafton, N.H. — Marion E. Seamans, 101, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016, surrounded by love in the comfort of her home. Marion was born Feb. 24, 1915, to Harry and Etta (Quimby) Sanders in Grafton, the youngest of 6 children (all deceased). She was a graduate of Lebanon High School and attended Plymouth Teachers College. She married Leslie Seamans of Grafton where they made their home and raised their three children.

Marion served as Postmaster of Grafton for 25 years. She was a member of the school board for 15 years and worked hard on the creation of the Mascoma Valley Regional School District, served as Town librarian for a time and dispatched the Grafton Vol. Fire Dept. and ambulance until Hanover dispatch took over the job. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Benevolent Society and a member of the Historical Society. She was active in town affairs and served on various committees over the years. After Leslie’s death in 1990 she spent her winters in Port Orange, Fla., where she made many friends and loved playing bingo. But she always returned to her home in Grafton for the summer months. She had done volunteer work at the Mascoma Senior Center in Canaan, but in later years limited it to playing the organ for the enjoyment of all. Marion loved music, particularly old show tunes. She was a consummate baker and loved making pies of all sorts and decorating cakes for family and friends. She was also a poet. One of her favorites was “The Garlic Clove” which detailed her intense dislike of the odious herb.

She was predeceased by her oldest son, Arthur (Sonny). She leaves behind her daughter, Susan and husband, Terry Reynolds of Lebanon with whom she made her home for the past three years; and her son, James and wife, Deborah of Port Orchard, Wash. Her Idaho family includes her daughter-in-law, Joyce Seamans; granddaughters, Cindy Schacher and Nancy Buttenhoff (Randy); along with five great-grandchildren, Michelle, Melissa, Brian, Rebecca and Rayanna; and six great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves many dear friends. Forever young at heart Marion always replied when asked her age “39 and counting”.

A celebration of her life will be held at the home of her daughter, Susan and son-in-law, Terry Reynolds at 32 Winona Circle in Lebanon on Thursday, March 24 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Burial will take place at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton on Friday, March 25 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory can be made to the Friends of the Grafton Public Library, PO Box 323, Grafton, NH 03240.
