An email is also sent to Comey, who is in California for a speaking engagement at the time. Comey tells Congress that top Clinton aide Huma Abedin had sent “ hundreds and thousands” of emails to her husband’s laptop computer, including some with classified information. James Comey FBI Director Donald Trump Jeff Sessions Attorney General Rod Rosenstein Deputy Attorney General Comey meets with Rosenstein to ask the Justice Department for more resources to pour into the probe of ties between Russia and Trump associates. Sessions and Rosenstein meet with Trump to express deep concern about Comey’s leadership. Trump tells them to put their concerns into writing. Rosenstein writes a three- page memo that is a scathing takedown of the FBI director. Trump calls lawmakers, including Democratic Senate leader Schumer, with news he is firing Comey. Schumer’s response: “ You’re making a big mistake.” The FBI corrects Comey’s sworn testimony about the Abedin emails, saying only a small number found on the laptop had been forwarded. Sen.
