In the early 1960s Brookside Farm, owned by the Hazen family since 1771, stretched from Wilder, Vt., to Norwich. A fire in 1963 destroyed all the buildings on the farm, seen in a photograph held by Henry Hazen on Wednesday, March 23, 2023, except the original house and garage. Hazen's father died tragically when he was hit by a car later that year. With eight children to care for, his mother sold roughly half of the farm land to the north of the homestead.
