BOSTON — Hartford High School’s Bennett Moreno and Ayodele Lowe had impressive results in the inaugural Beantown Winter Classic indoor track meet, setting new VPA Division II state records in three events.

The meet drew thousands of athletes from around the Northeast for two days of competition at the Track at New Balance.

Lowe set a new VPA Division II state record in the high jump of 6 feet, 6 inches, which placed him fourth in Boston. He was also fourth in the long jump (21-7) and 23rd in the 55-meter dash.

Also competing was pole vaulter Benjamin Lang who finished 16th with a Hartford High School record of 10-6.

Hartford coach Dan Talbot said the team, which also had several athletes participating in a meet at Norwich University over the weekend, set 36 personal records in 39 events and four school records in addition to the state records.

“Fantastic performances this weekend,” Talbot said. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”
