CHELSEA, VT — Lawrence R. “Larry” Pickett, 78 died Saturday, December 28, 2019 at his home in Chelsea, VT with his family by his side.

He was born July 19, 1941 in Websterville, VT the son of Raymond and Angie (Harris) Pickett. He grew up in many different towns in Northern Vermont, where he received his schooling.

On September 1, 1960 he married Martha Luce of Chelsea. They lived four years in Tunbridge, before moving into their new house they built in Chelsea, where they have lived since.

Larry worked ten years for Herm Ashline in East Randolph, doing plumbing, heating and electrical work, before becoming licensed.

He started his own plumbing, heating and gas delivery business which he ran for many years. He and Martha ran Picketts appliance store in Randolph. For many years he was the town of Chelsea Road Commissioner and also ran his own sand, gravel and excavating business, Pickett’s Inc.

Besides being road commissioner, he also served the town as a selectman. He enjoyed working, hunting, playing horse shoes, watching football, farming and Sunday morning breakfast. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Martha Pickett of Chelsea, a son Lawrence “Larry” Pickett, II and his wife Suzanne of East Randolph, VT, three daughters Larena Pickett and her husband Jack Showerman, Lori Pickett and Loretta Pickett all of Chelsea, four grandchildren Samantha, Addison, Emma and Jacklynn, and a brother Raymond Pickett of Waitsfield, VT. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jimmie Pickett and Reginald Pickett.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 from 6 to 8pm at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RTE 110, Chelsea, VT. A funeral service will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 at 2pm at the United Church of Chelsea. A private burial will be held later this spring in the Riverside Cemetery in Chelsea, VT.
