She will replace Robert Donin, who will retire in June after serving as general counsel for 16 years.
Subramanian is the vice president, general counsel and secretary at Oberlin College in Ohio. She will begin working at Dartmouth on July 1, according to a news release from the college.
In addition to being the chief legal officer, Subramanian’s responsibilities will include serving on Dartmouth College President Phil Hanlon’s senior leadership team, where she will advise him, the board of trustees, faculty and administration on a variety of legal and strategic issues.
“I am exhilarated at the prospect of working with President Hanlon and the Dartmouth community to advance the college’s academic vision,” Subramanian said in a news release.
Prior to becoming the general counsel at Oberlin in 2008, Subramanian was the chief attorney for the U.S. Department of Education’s Cleveland Office for Civil Rights. She is a graduate of both Yale University and Yale Law School.
