Royalton — A fire district in Royalton is receiving $270,000 in grants and loans to repair its main water source.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Tuesday announced that Royalton Fire District No. 1 will get a $161,000 loan and a $109,000 grant to reconstruct the Lake John Dam, replace its spillway pipe, add stormwater improvements and purchase a new overflow storage tank, among other improvements. The fire district serves 174 users, according to a USDA Rural Development news release.

The loan and grant were part of $1.2 billion in funding announced by USDA across the country on Tuesday to help rebuild and improve rural water infrastructure.
