South Royalton — The 50-year-old Vermont Law School student who has filed formal complaints about the institution with the Department of Education and various other entities is being expelled at the end of this semester.

Sissy Bradford, who charged the law school and its staff with discrimination and obstructing her right to free speech, disseminated an electronic copy of an April 13 “Letter of Involuntary Separation” in which VLS President Thomas McHenry informs her that she will not be allowed to remain at the school beyond May 6, the end of the semester.

The letter says Bradford violated several student handbook policies by causing “emotional harm to others,” burdening the school’s financial and human resources, and interfering with the school’s educational mission.

The letter also prohibits Bradford from emailing other students and entering VLS property during her final weeks as a student.

In an unofficial email newsletter, “The Goose,” Bradford has accused some VLS staff and students of bullying and marginalizing her, because she is a woman, because of her age, and because she suffers from PTSD. She also has questioned the school’s financial stability.

Other students, some of whom complained about her to administrators, have accused Bradford of bullying them and deluging them with unwanted emails.

Bradford declined comment on Thursday. On Friday, VLS spokeswoman Maryellen Apelquist also declined comment, noting the “administration cannot publicly discuss individual student matters.”
