Hanover, N.H. —  Robert J. DePorter, 93, Hanover,  died peacefully on Friday Dec. 23, 2016 following a brief illness.  Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy M. DePorter.  He is survived by daughter, Deborah D. Hoover (John) of Hudson, Ohio and son, Douglas M. DePorter (Nancy nee Hall) of Alton, N.H.; five grandchildren including Sarah R. LaPierre (Brian) of Somersworth, N.H., Lindsey A. LeBrun (Michael) of Nashua, N.H., Catherine R. Hoover and Nathaniel M. Hoover both of Cleveland, Ohio and Jack V. Hoover of Oxford, England, along with great grandson, Daniel LaPierre.    He was predeceased by his parents Marian and Frederick DePorter.   He was born Oct. 22, 1923 in Philadelphia,  Pa.  Robert was a veteran of World War II serving for three years in the United States Army Air Force assigned to an anti-submarine patrol squadron that operated in the Caribbean.   He trained as an engineer at Lafayette College and Virginia Polytechnic Institute.  Robert was a 1951 graduate of Albany Law School and member of the New York State Bar.   He served for several years as assistant attorney general for the State of New York.  In 1955, he began a long and distinguished career in the Social Security Administration serving in various capacities including district manager in Manchester, N.H. until the time of his retirement in 1987.  Robert was active in community affairs throughout his career including service on the board of the Visiting Nurse Association in Manchester. 

In retirement, Nancy and Robert enjoyed many adventures together traveling the world and relished time with their grandchildren.  He was an avid reader and a devoted art and music lover.  He will be deeply missed by his family and fondly remembered for his quick wit, curious mind, and breadth of knowledge.  The family thanks the dedicated staff at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover for their careful attention to his care and comfort over the last five years. 

A service in celebration of his life will take place at a later date.  Private burial will be in the Old Main Street Cemetery, New London, N.H.
