He married Harriet Hartwell of Weston, Mass. in 1965. Peter and Harriet owned and operated King Hill Farm in New London for over 55 Years. King Hill Farm employed Registered Holstein Cows and was recognized in multiple years as one of the top milk producing Dairy Farms in the state of N.H. Peter also had a passion for working with Draft Horses. He trained many in his lifetime and utilized his horses for logging, haying, and working on the farm. He was proud to also use them for sleigh rides, hay rides, and other special events and found great joy in participating in pulling contests throughout New England at the summer fairs. He encouraged his children to participate in the 4-H program where they showed sheep, cows and oxen. Peter centered his life around family and farming. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sporting events and loved family gatherings when everyone could be together on King Hill.
Over the years, he contributed to the community in many ways, including coaching lacrosse during the inception of the Kearsarge girls lacrosse program and serving as a member of the Citizenship Advisory Board for the Town of New London. Later in his life he spent time managing various residential construction projects.
Peter is survived by, Harriet, his wife of 53 years; three children and their spouses: Bill (Aimee) Messer of Summit, N.J., Amy (Ben) Carrdus of Washington, DC, and Kate (Ben) Dulac of Marblehead, Mass.; eight grandchildren: Hailey, Brayden and Ashlyn Messer, Chloe and Sam Carrdus, and Owen, Teddy and Layla Dulac.
A memorial service will be held at The First Baptist Church at 461 Main Street in New London on July 2, 2018, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to 4-H Youth Development.
