A pair of Hanover Hockey Association teams tucked in a pair of Thanksgiving weekend tournament titles in between the holiday celebrations last weekend.
In Gorham, Maine, Hanover Bantam Green dropped a 6-1 decision on the Maine Gladiators to take the Maine Hockey Development Thanksgiving Shootout tourney at the University of Southern Maine. The win capped off a 4-0-0 weekend for the Wild.
Hanover built a 2-1 lead in the first period of the final on a pair of goals from Pratt Stetson, with Nathan St. Pierre earning an assist. St. Pierre scored and set up Stetson’s hat trick strike to build the lead to 4-1 in the middle stanza. St. Pierre and Archer Judd completed the scoring in the final period, with Stetson and Tom Lyons assisting and goalie Dann Drebber polishing off an 11-save effort in the net.
Hanover started the weekend with a 5-2 defeat of the Lewiston-Auburn Spirit on Friday behind another Stetson three-goal effort. Jake Kriplin (two), Lucie Turcotte (two) and Andrew Duany were among the Wild skaters adding assists. Hanover followed with a 4-0 shutout of the Southern Maine Breakers, as Stetson scored twice, Judd and Casey Graham scored once each and Quincy McBride joined in the assists. Steton’s goal on a Curtis Rice pass netted a 1-0 win over the North Shore Shamrocks on Saturday to earn the date in the finals.
Stetson finished the tournament with nine goals and four assists.
The Hanover Peewee Elite also won their Thanksgiving tournament, taking the Rinks at Exeter Thanksgiving title with a 4-2 defeat of the Tewskbury (Mass.) Junior Redmen in Sunday’s title game. The Wild went 3-0-1 in the tournament.
White River Junction
The Wasps’ weekend started on Saturday with a 4-0 loss to Upper Valley’s Tier II squad at Barwood Arena. After a scoreless first period, the host Storm struck twine twice in each of the final two stanzas to hand Woodstock the loss.
The Wasps regrouped for two games on Sunday, starting again at WABA against Upper Valley Tier IV. Declan Flynn stepped out of the goal to play on the first line and scored on a Henry Trimpi assist to get Woodstock going toward an eventual 7-0 win. Will Coates moved up from defense to produce a hat trick, Griffin Piconi scored twice and Trimpi added a late goal. Charlie Macko, Michael LaCroix and Ethan Dean were among the owners of assists.
The Wasps headed back to Union Arena on Sunday afternoon for a 1-1 tie with St. Albans Tier III. St. Albans scored first, but the Wasps earned the tie on a second-period Dean goal set up by Graeme McKeon.
Woodstock
Woodstock opened with a 6-1 defeat of the neighborhood rival Storm on Saturday morning at Union Arena. Charles Greene and Mathew Sites scored early in the first period for the Wasps; Greene finished with a hat trick and Field Willis and John Cloud also scored for the Wasps.
Woodstock added a 7-0 shutout of Brattleboro White on Sunday, also at UA. Keaton Piconi needed to make just four saves for his second shutout of the season. Woodstock’s 40-shot assault resulted in a three-goal game from Cloud and additional scores from Owen Coates, Luke Ricci, Mason Harkins and Aiden Yates. Yates and Cloud also produced a pair of assists, while Riley Shepherd and Tommy Bissaillon also earned helpers.
Lyndonville, Vt.
Ian Schell got the Wasps on the board first, finishing a Calef Hepler pass early in the contest. Nicholas Lee completed an end-to-end rush for Woodstock’s second goal, and Auden Oliver-Yeager netted the eventual game-winner with a top-shelf shot in the final period.
The Wasps couldn’t keep the momentum going into Sunday, dropping an 8-1 decision to Harwood at Union Arena. Silas Bohen provided the Wasps’ sole tally.
White River Junction
The program provides a fun way for children to be physically active, develop confidence and build their self-esteem. Participants will learn the basics of cheerleading, with the hope of instilling enthusiasm for the sport as they get older.
Each cheerleader will get a team T-shirt as part of registration and participation. Practices will be held on three Saturdays in January (Jan. 9, 16, 23) in advance of a competition scheduled for Jan. 30.
Participants should wear appropriate shoes and clothing for an outdoor activity along with black pants; they should also bring a water bottle. The program is open to grades K-6 and costs $40 for Hartford residents and $55 for nonresidents.

The clinic will provide participants with an overview of the sport, icnluding pregame and postgame expectations, basic signaling and enforcement of the rules. Officials will also be introduced to proper positioning during any given game. Participans are encouraged to address questions or concerns about starting in the sport as well.
The clinic is open to ages 15 and older, runs from 1-2 p.m. and is free. Pre-registration is encouraged and can be done at www.hartfordrec.com.
Concord
Speakers for the conference will include retired Hofstra University coach Bill Edwards and Dartmouth College assistant coaches Molly Fichtner and Jackie Traina. After the conference, Fichtner and Traina will lead 30 pitchers and catchers through a three-hour clinic.
The cost for coaches is $50 through Dec. 19 and $65 at the door. The cost for players seeking to join the clinic is $150 through Dec. 19 and $160 if postmarked after the deadline. Player costs include admission to the conference as well.

Wednesday Walkers features easy morning hikes at sites around the Upper Valley.
Each hike begins by meeting at the Hartford Municipal Building at 9 a.m. for transportation to that day’s hike. The winter schedule:
Jan 25: Mill Road Trail, Lebanon.
Feb. 8: Storrs Pond, Hanover.
March 1: Mink Brook Marsh, Hanover.
Participants are asked to bring snacks, bottled water, properly layered clothing and proper footwear to handle winter conditions. Wednesday Walkers is open to all ages, and each hike is done by noon.
