Woodstock
Coming up this Friday at 6 p.m., there will be a Shabbat worship service, Hanukkah songs, dreidel games, a latke contest and a potluck dinner.
“We get a lot of people who know nothing about Hanukkah and just enjoy being there,” said Susan Feinberg, a volunteer and member of the congregation who lives in Hartland. “We started as just a group of Jewish people in Woodstock who wanted to get together and one of the first times we got together, I recall, was Hanukkah and we had a little Hanukkah party.”
It is open to all members of the public, regardless of religion and is a community celebration.
“We have a lot of old and young families,” Feinberg said. “We have a very active, youthful community.”
And it’s a community that continues to grow.
“We have a really large circle of people who come here,” Feinberg said, “which is really wonderful considering we’re such a small community.”
The Hanukkah celebration is an evening that everyone looks forward to.
“I love lighting the menorahs,” Feinberg said. “It’s just so pretty and the children, their little faces just light up as they watch the candles light up. It’s very sweet.”
