LEBANON — The Upper Valley Anglers 17Us nearly erased a three-run deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning, ultimately dropping a 4-3 decision to Keene in a New Hampshire Independent Baseball League game on Thursday at Lebanon High School.
Upper Valley (0-6) trailed, 2-0, just a half-inning into the contest and was staring at a 4-1 hole after allowing Keene a run in the top of the seventh. The Anglers cut the gap to one and had the tying and winning runs on base when Keene recorded the final outs of the game.
Collin Pierce (Hanover High) walked to open the home seventh, moving up on a one-out single from Declan Flynn (Hanover) and scoring on an RBI single from Cole Fabry (Lebanon). Trevor Pierce (Hanover) made it 4-3 with a run-scoring single that brought home Flynn and advanced Fabry to third base. Keene then erased the threat with a fly out and ground out.
Jon Carrier (Lebanon) provided Upper Valley’s other run, singling with one out in the fourth and scoring on an RBI single from Josh Roebuck (Lebanon). Dominic Vanlaere-Nutting (Fall Mountain) and Trevor Pierce split the mound work for the Anglers, combining to allow just five hits.
Upper Valley visits Portsmouth for a doubleheader on Saturday.
