New London, N.H. — Michael N. Meller of New London generally known as Mike was born on Dec. 26, 1935 in Budapest, Hungary. He passed away on Sunday, July 3 at New London Hospital in New London  surrounded by his family. Mike grew up in Hungary where he lived until age 11. He was a holocaust survivor and moved to Sweden after WWII and then immigrated into the US with his parents, Victor and Dorothy Meller at age 12 in 1948. He moved to New York City and after attending Columbia Grammar School went to Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, N.Y., where he obtained a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. His worked as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in Washington, District of Columbia and obtained a Law School degree at George Washington University.

He spent his early years as a Patent Attorney at General Electric Co. and then with Exxon. He then moved on to private practice first in Chicago and then later in New York City in the international patent arena. He also taught at UNH Law, John Marshall Law School and Fordham University Law School and wrote extensively on international patent law. His travels took him all over the world and instilled in his children the love of travel. He also represented in his law practice major US companies as well as Japanese and European companies.

After 48 years in the profession, he retired at age 70 to New London where he has lived with his wife Elizabeth. He has been very active in a number of organizations and groups in the New London and Upper Valley areas. He attended Hanover Friends Meeting and Kearsarge Unitarian Universalist Church. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children; Michael V. Meller and his wife Saba Ayalew of Alexandria, Va. ,Gretchen M. Meller and her husband Max deLaubenfels of Seattle, Wash., and Katherine M.Vedova and her husband Peter Vedova of New London along with his three grandchildren;  Jakob Vedova, Sofia Meller and Jersey Vedova.

A memorial service will be held in the fall.
