Claremont — About 2,000 customers of Eversource including Valley Regional Hospital, city schools and the commercial sector on Washington Street lost power at about 12:45 p.m.

Eversource spokeswoman Kaitlyn Woods said the outage had something to do with the transmission line coming in from Vermont to a substation in Claremont, though crews were not sure whether the problem was in New Hampshire or Vermont.

Initially 2,552 customer lost power, Woods said, but power was immediately restored to about 500 of them using distribution automation devices that allow Eversource to reroute power from another source. There was no indication when power would be fully restored.
