Lloyd was born June 1, 1934, in Whitefield, N.H., and spent much of his youth and adult life in Lebanon, N.H. He graduated from Lebanon High School and later from the University of Connecticut with a degree in pharmacy. Both personally and professionally, Lloyd is remembered for his kindness, gentleness, humility, and accepting manner. Lloyd’s career as a pharmacist included work at McNeil’s Drugstore in Lebanon, the Veterans Administration Hospital in White River Junction, Vt., and at the Dartmouth College Student Health Center. For many years, local doctors would call him at all hours to help care for a patient whose illnesses required attention and prescription medicine outside of the normal 9-to-5 day. In addition to his work as a pharmacist, Lloyd served his community as School Board Chair, bail commissioner, high school basketball official, and as a youth sports coach. In all of these roles he exemplified excellence without arrogance, leading by example and providing unyielding support to those around him.
Lloyd loved his family, keeping them in his thoughts and his heart regardless of whether they were nearby or many miles away. Along with family and pharmacy, his passions included sports, music (an accomplished trombonist, he loved jazz and Dixieland), all things that brought him close to the ocean, and time spent in quiet relaxation outdoors. Lloyd found enjoyment in the small moments that are a part of everyday life, and he was quite content with a good conversation, a cup of coffee, and a pleasant view from the deck or porch.
A memorial service will be held on July 28 at 9 a.m. at Valley Cemetery in Lebanon, N.H. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to Lewy Body Dementia Research.
