She was born Frances T. Folsom Jan. 8, 1919, Bath, N.Y. to Arthur L. Folsom & Hazel M. Griffin. She lived in Hammondsport, N.Y. and Roselle, N.J.
She was educated at the Drake Business School and University of Iowa.
Her ancestors sailed from Foulsham; County of Norfolk, England on April 26, 1638, arriving in Massachusetts, Bay Colony on Aug. 10, 1638.
Frances married Robert Stuart Ward (Princeton ‘41) on March 8, 1942, in Roselle, N.J. He was killed in Normandy, France on July 11, 1944.
She joined the American Red Cross and served in Guam from 1945-46.
She later married Irving F. (Snuffy) Smith (Dartmouth ‘41) at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, N.Y. on July 28, 1948 to April 19, 2005. She resided in Hanover, N.H. before moving to Florida.
She is survived by a daughter, Tracey A. Smith, Sarasota, Fla.; and nephews, Joe & Dennis VanDzura; and nieces, Janet VanDzura & Elaine Windsor.
She is buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C.
