West Lebanon — Campion Rink is breaking out a host of added opportunities for public skating and open-stick hockey over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

The West Lebanon facility will have a pair of added public skates each day through the weekend. Sessions have been scheduled for Friday from 1:40-3:10 p.m. and 5:10-6:10 p.m., Saturday from 3:40-5 p.m. and 6:30-7:40 p.m., and Sunday from 12:50-2:10 p.m. and 2:40-4:10 p.m.

In addition to its usual Friday slot (noon-1:30 p.m.), Campion has also added two open-stick hockey slots for high school and college skaters only. They are Friday night from 7:30-8:50 p.m. and Saturday evening from 5:10-6:20 p.m.

Public skating is $6 for adults, $5 for children and seniors and free to children ages 3 and younger. Open-stick hockey is $10 per player, and participants must be 16 years of age or older. Call Campion Rink at 603-643-1222 for more information.

Wendell A. Barwood Arena in White River Junction has also added a Thanksgiving weekend public skating slot to its usual schedule, on Friday from 1-2:45 p.m. Public skates are $5 per person, and skate rentals are available at $5 per pair.

Su 6 Completes Upgrades

South Pomfret — The Suicide Six Ski area will greet winter having made $400,000 in upgrades to its snowmaking system, according to a Woodstock Inn and Resort news releae.

The investment is highlighted by the installation 10 new TechnoAlpin snow producers. The work will allow snowmaking on Su 6’s Face trail and ski-snowboard learning center to be fully automated for the firsttime. Snow guns replaced by the new system have been reallocated to other parts of the 24-trail mountain.

Suicide Six has targeted Dec. 15 as its season-opening date.

Plaisted in Action

Auburn, n.h. — Orford musher Fran Plaisted kept busy by competing in three races at the Ethan Howard Memorial Rig Race on Nov. 11.

Plaisted won the adult one-dog speed class with a time of 20 minutes, 46 seconds over a 4.4-mile course. Plaisted also claimed second place in the adult eight-dog speed class, covering a 5.6-mile course in 23:32.

Plaisted completed the weekend by taking fourth place in another one-dog speed class race, posting a time of 26:42 over 4.4 miles.

Norwich Turkey Trot

Norwich — Runners, walkers and volunteers are being sought for the 10th edition of the Norwich Turkey Trot road race today.

The race offer two routes, one covering 4.4 miles and another covering 2 miles around the town. The event benefits the Upper Valley Haven, and although there is no fee to hit the starting line, participants are asked to provide a cash, food or clothing donation for the Haven to join in.

This is a dog-friendly event, although leashes are required. Turkey Trots and other gear also will be available for donations of $20 or more.

Zack’s Place Race

Woodstock — Zack’s Place is back to host its annual Turkey Trot fundraiser, scheduled for this morning in Woodstock.

The 5K road race, which drew nearly 1,700 people last year, helps Zack’s Place, a community enrichment center for youths and adults with special needs. The 5K race is open to walkers and runners, at a pre-registration cost of $30. The cost increases to $35 for day-of-race registrations.

Lebanon Thanksgiving Basketball Tourney

Lebanon — The Lebanon Police Department is teaming up with the Carter Community Building Association to hold its annual youth three-on-three basketball tournament on Sunday.

The tournament consists of multiple divisions for boys and girls in grades 5-12. Each team can have up to four players, and teams will play 12-minute contests in a double-elimination format. Tournament rules are available at lebanonnh.gov/1096/Annual-Basketball-Tournament.

Referee Clinic in WRJ

White River Junction — The Hartford Parks and Recreation Department will hold a basketball officials clinic for young and first-time referees on Dec. 2 from 1-2 p.m. at the Dothan Brook School.
