Meriden — One of the five Vermont teens killed by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 89 over the weekend was a sophomore at Kimball Union Academy.

Janie Cozzi, 15, of Fayston, Vt., had returned home from KUA for the long weekend and was in a car with four friends from the Mad River Valley when their vehicle was hit by a motorist driving the wrong direction on Saturday night in Williston, Vt.

KUA in a statement today said Janie “was a bright light in our community” and that faculty and students are grieving her loss.

“The strength of the Kimball Union community has always been built on and derived from the love and care we have for each and every student. As we grieve and share our love of one another, we know our full community is alongside with us,” the statement from Head of School Mike Schafer reads.
