NEWPORT — A 25-year-old Sunapee man facing a reckless conduct with a deadly weapon charge following a standoff with police in Sunapee over the weekend pleaded not guilty on Monday.

Joshua Stiller was arraigned in Sullivan County Superior Court on the felony count. He remains held pending an evidentiary hearing on Monday, Sullivan County Attorney Marc Hathaway said.

Officers went to 120 Lower Main St. in Sunapee around 3 a.m. on Saturday for a report that Stiller was intoxicated and armed with a handgun. Shortly before police arrived, the caller said Stiller had fired the gun in the barn of the residence, where he then barricaded himself, police said at the time.

The state police SWAT team arrived on seen and used tear gas to end the standoff.
