Democrat Thomas Cormen of Lebanon is running unopposed for New Hampshire House District 17.
The Valley News asked Cormen in a survey about his experience, why he is running and what he sees as the biggest issue facing the state. His answers, edited lightly for style, appear below.
Cormen, an emeritus Dartmouth computer science professor, names property taxes as the biggest issue and calls for rolling back recent cuts to state revenue.
THOMAS CORMEN

Democrat · NH House Grafton 17
70, Democrat, Lebanon
Political experience: Two terms in the New Hampshire House; deputy ranking member of the House Science, Technology and Energy Committee.
Professional experience: Emeritus professor of computer science at Dartmouth College; I was on the faculty for more than 29 years.
Community service: Board secretary of COVER Home Repair in White River Junction.
Why are you running? To promote energy that is reliable, clean and affordable. To rein in the dangers of AI and data centers. To lower property taxes. To support public education against the attacks coming from Concord.
Biggest issue: Property taxes are out of control here in Lebanon, but also throughout New Hampshire. I would vote to roll back the damaging cuts to state revenues that have occurred over the last several years. I would eliminate Education Freedom Accounts, which funnel tax dollars to private and religious schools.
