CORNISH — Crews are replacing worn deck planks on the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge, and it’s now closed on weekdays.
The work began Monday, Oct. 19, according to the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
The bridge will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, weather permitting, likely through the end of November. It will remain open on weekends, according to a notice from the town of Cornish.

No detour signs will be posted. NHDOT is asking drivers to allow extra time for travel and to find another way across the Connecticut River during the closures. The closest alternate crossing is about 6 miles south, between Claremont and Ascutney.
Andrew Hall, who oversees bridge maintenance for NHDOT, told the Valley News the work is routine maintenance.
The bridge, built in 1866, last underwent a major rehabilitation in the late 1980s. That work closed it for more than two years. It’s the longest two-span wooden covered bridge in the world, extending 449 feet across the Connecticut.
