Why we support Susan Culp for the Vermont House

Voters in the Orange Caledonia district have a unique choice in candidates to represent them in the Vermont House of Representatives this year. It’s great to have options, but in our view, there is a clear choice — Susan Culp. Having worked with Susan for the past few years in her role in local government on the Town of Newbury Selectboard, we believe she has the experience, skills, and knowledge it takes to be an effective legislator, as well as a strong leader and advocate for the people of our district.

Susan has a master’s degree in public administration and policy — a background that included rigorous coursework in public finance, economics, and program evaluation; her interdisciplinary program even allowed her to take numerous law courses.  She graduated at the top of her class, and then went on to put that knowledge into action through a successful career working in policy for over two decades.  She has a thorough understanding of the legislative process, having worked as a registered lobbyist for a nonprofit in charge of its policy work.

She is skilled at coalition building with diverse groups, and can lead complex projects to fruition.  More than that, she is thoughtful and a good listener, and is open and accessible to those she serves in the community.  And Susan delivers on her commitments to her constituents and her colleagues alike.

Newbury has been fortunate to have her diligent service as a local elected official.  The whole of Orange Caledonia would likewise be fortunate to have Susan represent them in Montpelier.  We are voting for Susan Culp.  She is by far the best qualified candidate in this race, and we encourage others to support her as well.
