WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Construction crews are scheduled to begin repairs on a railroad bridge over Maple Street in White River Junction near the Listen center on Friday.

Maple Street — also known as Route 4 — will be open during the repairs, which will primarily take place overnight from Friday through Tuesday evening, according to a Vermont Department of Transportation announcement.

“During working hours, the road will be reduced to one lane with alternating one-way traffic controlled by temporary signals,” according to the department.

Work is scheduled to begin at noon Friday and continue until 6 a.m. Saturday, according to the department. It is scheduled to resume at 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Sunday; then 9 p.m. Sunday through Monday at 6 a.m.; Monday at 9 p.m. through Tuesday at 6 a.m.; and Tuesday at 9 p.m. concluding at midnight Wednesday.

According to Rail Director Dan Delabruere, a truck hit the bridge — known as “Bridge 502” — and crews need to replace a damaged/bent beam.

“Flaggers will be present to guide motorists through the work zone,” according to the department. “Motorists should expect delays and plan travel accordingly.”
