WEST LEBANON — Taste of Punjab, the Indian restaurant that started as a food trailer, has opened for business in the Glen Road Plaza.
Owners Kulwinder Kaur and Manjit Singh are offering an expanded menu with tandoori dishes and lamb curries along with Taste of Punjab classics such as the masala-spiced fries and the samosa chaat, two samosas smothered in chickpeas, yogurt and chutney.
The husband-and-wife owners also have brought on two chefs who are experienced cooking with a tandoor oven and making traditional Indian curries, their son Rajvir Singh said in a Tuesday phone call.
“I’m very excited because I know we can do a lot more and we can offer food that’s never been offered before” at Taste of Punjab, he said.
Entrees at the restaurant go for $13 to $20, while starters such as the vegetable pakoras and the Chilli Chicken cost $4 to $13.
Located in the old Subway, next to Monadnock Vapor, Taste of Punjab is open from 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday through Tuesday, and closed on Wednesdays.
While the owners turn their attention to running the restaurant, the food trailer will be used for catering and special events, rather than regular service, Rajvir Singh said.
Eventually the family hopes to tour the trailer around the Upper Valley and build out its menu to include more street-style dishes such as fragrant flatbreads stuffed with potatoes or paneer and different varieties of samosas.
