WEATHERSFIELD โ Voters defeated the second proposed general fund budget on Tuesday, but passed three other articles on the warning during all-day balloting for the special town meeting.
On Tuesday, voters rejected the revised general fund budget of just over $2 million, 258-218.
After voters rejected the general fund and highway budget along with the two capital expenditures in Town Meeting voting on March 3, Town Manager Brandon Gulnick revised the general fund budget by cutting about $26,000 and reducing the annual increase from 4.2% to 2.8%.
Selectboard member Mike Todd said the board will meet to talk about what it needs to do now and whether a third vote on the general fund budget is required under state law.
“We have some ideas of what we need to do but we haven’t spoken about it yet,” Todd said by phone Wednesday morning.
On Tuesday, voters approved the revised highway budget of $1.3 million, 259-217.
Ahead of Tuesday’s vote, officials had reduced the highway budget by $9,000. It represented a 1.47% increase from this year.
A $75,000 appropriation for the Fire Apparatus Acquisition Reserve Fund to replace the fire departmentโs 2006 brush vehicle passed 244-232.
The last article, a $150,000 appropriation to partially fund replacement of two trucks for the highway department was narrowly approved, 240-236. Purchase of the brush vehicle and the two highway department trucks will also be funded with money from reserve funds.
On Town Meeting Day in March, Weathersfield voters also rejected the proposed school budget of $9.95 million. In a revote last month, the town approved a revised school budget of $9.8 million.
Of the townโs 2,405 registered voters, 476, or 19%, turned out to vote on Tuesday.
