Mascoma fifth at Black Bear Invitational
Sam Joyce (1st, 100 and 200 meters) and Barnaby Diehn (1st, discus, 2nd shot put) propelled the Macoma boys to a fifth-place finish among 25 teams at the Black Bear Invitational Track and Field meet at Coe-Brown High School in Northwood, N.H., on Saturday. Mascoma coach Rick Currier said Joyce was named the meet’s MVP and DIehn beat the meet record in the discus by 19 feet 6 inches with a throw of 177 feet 5 inches. Newport’s Ayden Hodge won the javelin, Brady Minckler was fifth in the shot put and Aiden Couitt was sixth in the long jump. For the Newport girls, Callie Dixon was third in the shot put. The Tiger boys finished in 14th placeย and the girls were 15th among 21 teams. For the Lebanon boys, who finished 20th, Oscar Gulledge was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, and Alexzander Averine, Gulledge, Kyrellos Antonious and Cayden Piper were fifth in the 4 by 100 relay and Brent Paige, Koen Christie, Alistair Smith and Owen Tuohy were fifth in the 4 by 800.
