Tunbridge, Vt. —
Elaine moved to Vermont in 1944, where she met and married Wallace Anthony on Sept. 22, 1945. Their entire married life was spent in Tunbridge. In 1960, they bought and moved to their Spring Road home where they farmed. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1995. Following Wally’s death in 2004, Elaine had continued living on her own, insisting upon spring and fall housecleaning, shoveling snow and even raking her entire lawn this past spring.
Elaine was a homemaker, who enjoyed her garden, flowers, and her family, especially her grandchildren. During her early married life, she was a member of the Brocklebank Women’s Club, and the Tunbridge Lady’s Aid, often helping with events from these groups including chicken pie suppers and Tunbridge Fair dinners. She was a member of the South Tunbridge Methodist Church and helped organize funeral fellowships and other activities for the church.
She had served on the Orange County Extension Advisory Board, and was a Clever Clovers 4H leader for over 13 years. She was also an active member of the Eastern Star. Elaine was an outstanding cook, and was the hot lunch cook one year at the Tunbridge Central School.
Elaine is survived by her three children and their spouses and partners, Nancy and Randy Chapman, Tunbridge; Susan Bellefeuille and Robert Cromwell, Tunbridge; William Anthony and Candace Allard, Newport, Vt.; daughter-in-law, Elsie McNally, Williamstown, Vt.; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years; her son, Richard Anthony; her granddaughter, Sherry Fisk; her brother, Richard Sears; and sister, Barbara Dunlap.
A graveside service will be held Sunday, Oct. 29 at 11:30 a.m. in the Spring Road Cemetery in Tunbridge. A time of fellowship will follow at the Tunbridge town hall. A private message of sympathy for the family can be shared at www.boardwayandcilley.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea, Vt.
