INDOOR TRACK

Upper Valley athletes register firsts at meets

Mascomaโ€™s Barnaby Diehn and Georgia Kondi, Hanoverโ€™s Aria Deeb, Stevensโ€™ Owen Chapman and Lebanonโ€™s Oscar Gulledge all won their individual events at Saturdayโ€™s New Hampshire winter meets at the University of New Hampshire in Durham, N.H.

Also taking first place was the Lebanon boysโ€™ 4×160 relay team of Gulledge, Alexander Averrine, Teegan Joyner and Ryder Desharnis.

Competing in the morning meet with 17 schools, the Royalsโ€™ Diehn won the discus and Kondi the shot put. At the afternoon meet, Deeb won the 1,500 meters, Chapman the 55 meters and Gulledge the shot put.

Other highlights at the afternoon meet came from Deeb (second in the 3,000 meters); Kristen Higgins (Hanover, third, 55 meter hurdles); Joyner (Lebanon, second, 300 meters); Chapman (Stevens, fourth, 300 meters); Banipreet Kaur (Lebanon, fourth, 300 meters); Bryce Palmer and Alex Couitt (Newport, third and fifth 1,000 meters); Brady Minckler and Logan Rusin (Lebanon, third and fourth shot put); and Callie Dixon (Newport, third shot put). The meets combine Division I and II schools.

For Mascoma, Sam Joyce was third in the 300 meters, Carl Russell was second in the 1,500 meters, Colin Myers was third in the shot put and Baylee Hill took third in the high jump. The Mascoma boys finished fifth out of 17 teams and the girls were ninth of 16 teams in the morning meet.

Thetfordโ€™s Perdrizet shines at meet

Thetford junior Sebastian Perdrizet won the high jump and scored in scored in three other events at an indoor meet at the University of Vermont in Burlington on Saturday.

Perdrizet also finished second in the 300 meters, fourth in the 55 meters and was on the 4×200 relay team with Emmett Terry, Daniel Mann and Owen Goodrich that finished third. In the girls meet, Imari Taylor of White River Valley won the shot put, Casey Wiedrick of Oxbow finished fourth in the 1,000 meters and Addison Isham of White River Valley took fourth in the high jump.

The Thetford boys were fifth out of 27 teams. The White River girls were eighth, and Oxbow and Thetford tied for 18th among 26 teams.

At the throwing competition on Sunday at St. Johnsbury Academy, Connor Sloop of Thetford had the best finish among area competitors with a seventh place in the weight throw.
