Thetford, Vt. —
He was born Nov. 15, 1926, in Norwich, Vt. and lived in Union Village for his entire life. Upon his return from serving in the Navy he was married to Valroy Tuttle in 1948. They had four children together, Dona, Heman Jr, Bruce and Ralph. Heman, Sr. worked in the Strafford Copper Mines and as a carpenter for Glen Aldrich until he started working for The Porter’s of Norwich in 1953 until his retirement in 1988 from GR Porter & Son’s.
Heman is survived by his two sons, Heman Jr. and Bruce both of West Fairlee, Vt.; one sister, Helen; and five brothers, Roy, Leonard, Kenny, Howard and Willy; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
He is predeceased by both parents, his wife of 41 years Valroy, his daughter Dona, his infant son Ralph, a great grandchild, two sisters Dottie and Irene, two brothers, James and Gene.
Heman enjoyed watching the Red Socks and playing cribbage with friends at the American Legion in Norwich, Vt. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and camping with friends and family. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and his amazing carpentry skills. He was a loving father and grandfather.
Calling hours will be held at Hale’s Funeral Home in Bradford, Vt. on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018. A graveside service and celebration of life will be held at a later date.
