CHARLESTOWN — The proposed withdrawal of Charlestown from the five-town Fall Mountain School District lost in ballot voting Tuesday, 905-509.
The defeat puts an end to the withdrawal process since it had to pass in Charlestown regardless of the districtwide vote.
Longtime Selectboard member Steve Neil, with 564 votes, lost in a three-way race for two seats on the Selectboard to Scott Wade, 691, and William Rescsanski, 570. A recount is likely. A recount is also likely for the one-year Selectboard seat with John Streeter receiving the most votes, 315, among five candidates and Nancy Houghton finishing second with 306. Alan Putnam and Gabriel Bailey won two seats on the Planning Board in a five-way race.
In other articles, voters rejected a $2.9 million bond for new fire station, which needed a 60% majority but failed to get a simple majority, 796-614.
The $5.8 million budget, fire truck lease purchase, money for capital reserve funds and the senior center all were approved.
