Springfield, Vt. — An 81-year-old Springfield man remains hospitalized following a Tuesday morning collision with a town of Springfield dump truck in the area of Chester and Cutler roads.

George Spafford had to be extricated from his Chevrolet SUV following the 10:40 a.m. accident. Officials transported him to Springfield Hospital, and later transferred him to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, according to a Springfield police news release.

The 2015 International dump truck driven by Juston Smith, 35, of Springfield, suffered some damage in the crash. The roads were snow and slush covered at the time of the crash, Springfield Police Chief Douglas Johnston said.

It is too early in the investigation to tell if that was the main factor in the crash, Johnston said.

“The crash is still under investigation, but what we know so far, it doesn’t appear that there will be any charges filed at this time,” Johnston said.
