Herbert married his wife Joan, on Feb 18, 1950. They made their home in Manchester, then moved to Virginia, and eventually settled in Lebanon. He worked for Houghton Mifflin Company as a Contract Administrator. Herb was very active in the Lebanon Elks Lodge and was the treasurer for many years. He also served as Exalted Ruler, District Deputy, and State President. He along with two friends started the Sr. Citizens Christmas dinners approximately 50 years ago. He was chairman of the local and State Elk’s Hoop Shoot for several years, spelling bees, childrens’ fishing derbies, scouts, and other childrens’ functions. He enjoyed, traveling, attending the annual Turkey Bowl, being a member of the Lebanon football Chain gang, and playing pool. He and Joan started every morning with a game of cribbage. Herb enjoyed spending time at his camp in Franklin, N.H, where he loved to fish with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren who remember his great witticisms and the important life lessons he taught them, especially the importance of family.
Herb was predeceased by a daughter Judith Verrill, and a grandson Mathew Neily. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Joan Cornell. He is also survived by his children, Ronald Desrochers, and wife, Sheryl, Herbert Daniel Cornell, Jr., Brenda Cornell West, Steven Cornell and companion, Debbie Smith, Lisa Vose and companion Bill Soule, and son-in-law, Arthur Verrill; 12 grandchildren, Tina, Mark, Chad, Robert, Jason, Herbert III, Mandi, Nicole, Gunnar, Spencer, Jonathon, and Cody. He is also survived by several great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and close friends, John Vose, Chip Gordon, Brian Ryea; and many others including his favorite dog, Lily.
Calling hours will be held at Ricker Funeral Home, in Lebanon, Friday, April 1 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m, with a service immediately following. Family and friends are invited to a reception following the services at the Lebanon Elks Lodge.
