PEMBROKE, N.H. — The Hanover High baseball team showed why it’s considered a strong contender for its first state title this seaosn, pounding Pembroke, 9-0, on Monday in its season and NHIAA Division II opener.
Sam Sacerdote threw a two-hitter, striking out 14 Spartans and walking none. The junior righthander from Norwich threw strikes on 64 of his 87 pitches, although he hit two batters. Pembroke is 1-2.
Third baseman Jackson McBride had four hits, including a double, and an RBI, and Casey Graham and Declan Flynn each had a hit and two RBIs. The Bears, who stranded five runners, host Pelham on Friday.
CLAREMONT — The Cardinals were only outhit 8-7 but walked 10 batters, hit five more and allowed 15 stolen bases. They also left the bases loaded during three consecutive innings.
“We couldn’t throw strikes,” Stevens coach Bill Bundy said. “We were putting guys on first and second every inning with no outs, and you’re not going to win a baseball game like that. And you’re not going to win if you don’t put some runs up.”
Junior pitcher Ty Theriault started for the Cardinals and allowed three earned runs and struck out eight batters over four innings but also issued eight walks. The Falcons broke the game open against senior Sean Adams by scoring six runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth to end the game early via the run rule.
Junior Jesse Foote was the only Stevens player with a multi-hit game, and all seven of the Cardinals’ hits were singles. Stevens (0-2) travels to St. Thomas (3-0) on Wednesday.
LEBANON — The Raiders dropped their season opener after managing only four hits against the Saints’ Connor Toriello, who struck out nine batters while allowing three hits during the first five innings.
Lebanon’s Dawson Bates took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs, three of them earned, during a four-inning start. Sid Wallace surrendered no runs in relief against STA (3-0).
Ben Katz had two hits and Braeden Falzarano and Francis Calendrella each had one for the Raiders, who visit Pelham (1-2) on Wednesday.
BRISTOL, N.H. — The Raiders committed eight errors and suffered their worst defeat since a 39-0 setback at Kennett in 2019.
Starter Ashlee Blashock pitched the first 3⅓ innings and allowed 33 runs. She was replaced by freshman Rya Wykes, who finished the NHIAA Division III contest.
The visitors’ best scoring chance came in the fourth inning. Natalee Pettersen drew a walk, followed by Abigail Stone’s double. However, both Stone and Pettersen wound up at third base during the play, and the latter was tagged out. Lebanon deployed a first-base coach but not a third-base coach during the game.
The Raiders, whose only other hit was a single by Alexcia Matson, visit Hillsboro-Deering (1-2) on Wednesday.
CLAREMONT — The Cardinals improved to 1-1 with an NHIAA Division II victory highlighted by Mia Herbert’s four-hit pitching performance. The hurler struck out nine batters, walked eight and allowed no earned runs.
Kylie Bundy hit a triple for the hosts, and Bri Frisbee smacked a home run. Herbert had two hits, including a double and Josie Aiken also doubled. Stevens hosts Fall Mountain on Friday.
WEST SWANZEY, N.H. — The Royals fell to 0-3 overall and in NHIAA Division III play and have been outscored, 53-12, while suffering two shutouts. Monadnock is 3-0. Mascoma is at Gilford (3-1) on Wednesday.

PENACOOK, N.H. — The Bears pulled away from a 5-5 halftime tie, improving to 1-1. The hosts scored the third quarter’s first goal but surrendered the NHIAA Division II contest’s final six tallies.
Hanover’s Brendan Logan had five goals and two assists, D.H. Hendrick had four goals and Brendan Kwaku scored twice. Jack Gardner and Sam McDowell each had one assist, and Henry Cotter made eight saves. Jack Wilkinson had nine ground balls and Gardner eight for the Bears, who host Goffstown on Friday.
HOPKINTON, N.H. — The Cardinals fell to 0-3 and have been outscored, 55-2, this season. Stevens, which has suffered five consecutive winless seasons and eight such campaigns during the last decade, is 3-131 record during that time and hosts Bishop Brady (0-2) in NHIAA Division III action on Friday.
LEBANON — The Raiders trailed, 5-1, after 15 minutes but cut their deficit to 8-6 at hafltime. Freshman Drew Kantor made her goaltending debut, stopping eight shots.
Kayla Taber had three goals, Catherine Cole had two goals and two assists and Molly Smith and Maddy Jewel each had two goals and an assist for Lebanon. Coach Sara Ecker, whose team hosts Laconia on Wednesday, received strong play from its back line of Clara Smyrski, Amalia Hickey, Anna Illsley and Amanda Brooker. Derryfield is 3-0.
HANOVER — The Bears rolled during their season opener, dropping the Generals to 1-2. Hanover visits longtime NHIAA Division II rival Windham on Thursday.
Emily Perras had four goals and two assists, Lauren Eiler had four assists, Maeve Lee had three goals and three assists, Caroline Adams had three goals and two assists and Kali McDonnell and Lia Naughton each had two goals and two assists for Hanover.
HAMPTON, N.H. — Evan Yang, Charlie Birkmeyer, Zach Pearson and Alex Orsino earned singles victories for the Bears (4-0), the latter triumphing for the first time on the varsity level.
Doubles points came from the duos of Yang-Alex Rockmore, Kevin Pillsbury-Sam Ames and Ian Holmes-Ryder Wilson.
HANOVER — Eleanor van Aalst, Rachel Rockmore, Mackenzie Liu, Natalie Feyrer and Shanyna Rockmore won in singles play to spark the Bears to 5-0. Winnacunnet is 2-3.
