ENFIELD — Enfield’s water system tested negative for bacteria Tuesday, bringing the town closer to lifting a boil water order that has been in place since Nov. 4.
The sample was taken Monday and came back negative Tuesday, said Jim Taylor, director of the town’s public works department.
The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services requires a minimum of two consecutive negative tests before the order can be lifted. A sample taken Tuesday is in the process of being tested, Taylor said. The state will then determine if a third test is needed before the order can be lifted.
There are 484 connections to Enfield’s water and sewer system, which are mainly located in Enfield Village and the business district, which stretches along Route 4.
Town officials will continue to post updates to enfield.nh.us.
