CLAREMONT — An accidental fire burned through a Claremont home Monday morning, leaving behind smoke and structural damage and a hole in the living room floor, according to a news release from the Claremont Fire Department.
No one was in the home when fire crews were called to the scene around 7:30 a.m. Monday. When they arrived at the 1½ story house on 69 Chestnut St., they found smoke coming from the windows. Firefighters battled the fire for about 90 minutes before getting it under control around 9 a.m.
Once inside, firefighters found the house was heavily charred from the smoke, and a hole had burned in the floor of the living room, just in front of the pellet stove, which had been heating the home at the time, according to the news release. The exact cause of the fire has not been determined.
Firefighters said the house suffered structural damage in the incident.
