Lebanon, N.H. — Carolyn Ladd Hall Sands, known as Kayo, the widow of Dr. George Winthrop (Win) Sands, died at age 93, Wednesday, April 27, 2016, at home, peacefully in her own bed. She was born in Cambridge, Mass. on Jan. 22, 1923, to Prof. Norris Folger Hall and Alice Biardot Garrett.

She served for many years as a trustee at the DHMC and also volunteered over 27,000 hours mostly manning the central rotunda information and reception desk. There she was known and loved by many for her abundant good cheer and efficient provision of accurate information. Her husband, Win, had served for nearly three decades as a physician to the students of Dartmouth at Dick’s House. Their shared interest in health care was how they met. Together they were known in the original Hitchcock clinic community of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s for their distinctive hospitality.

She is survived by her daughter Tayo, who cared for her at home lovingly and unstintingly  during the final years of her life; her sons Michael, Jonathan and Christopher, her beloved grandchildren Carolyn and Nici (who also provided abundant care while living with her) and Max, Wil, Tito, and Sam as well as two adored great grandchildren.

A celebration of her life for friends and family will be held at her home in Lebanon at 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28.
