Fairlee
The project, which has the backing of the Selectboard and Fairlee Historical Society, would remedy fire safety issues, upgrade heating and ventilation systems, and install an elevator to make the second floor handicap accessible and bring the entire building into compliance with the federal Americans With Disabilities Act.
It also would include a handicap-accessible bathroom. The Colonial Revival town hall along Route 5 in Fairlee Village was built in 1914 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2014.
Town officials have said the proposed bond in its first year would add $56 in taxes to a home assessed at $200,000.
