South Royalton — September is River Cleanup Month in Vermont and events are planned to remove trash from waterways throughout the state, including one this afternoon in South Royalton.

Last year, 20,000 pounds of trash ranging from shopping carts to tires to bottles were removed from waterways at 27 events throughout the state.

“Many Vermonters are concerned about clean water, and river cleanups are a great way for citizens to get involved and make a visible difference in the health of their local river,” Lyn Munno, director of Watersheds United Vermont, said in a news release.

The White River Partnership will be hosting a cleanup today, at 2 p.m.  Volunteers will meet at 103 Chelsea St., in the parking lot downstream from the South Royalton Bridge. The partnership will provide gloves, trash bags and snacks.
