Participants are recommended to carpool to the trailhead for parking and bring water, snacks, sturdy shoes and a camera for the hike. From the trailhead, hikers will go less than a mile to the mountain’s cabin for a rest and pictures, then 1.58 miles on the new Wilderness Trail and Rube’s Route before a half-mile jaunt to Vt. Route 25 and a bus that will ferry hikers back to the trailhead.
The Wilderness Trail construction project began this summer with four high school groups under the guidance of the Upper Valley Trails Alliance’s Summer Odyssey Program. Two groups from Dartmouth College’s Tuck Summer Program, another from Hypertherm’s Community Service Team, the UVTA’s John Taylor and BCC member Riley Hudson completed the other half of the trail.
Should rain interfere, the grand opening and hike will be moved to Sunday.
