BURLINGTON — If and when Hartford High School gets to the point of installing an artificial turf field on campus, it appears the Hurricanes’ girls lacrosse team will be more than comfortable playing on it.
Hartford won the opening draw of Saturday’s game at Burlington, scored within 19 seconds, built a 12-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 14-1 win over the Seahorses at Buck Hard Field. The game was originally scheduled for Hartford but was moved to BHS’ turf field because of muddy conditions at home.
Not that the Canes (1-0) minded one little bit.
“We dominated in the midfield, but it was a total team effort,” Hartford coach Heather Hartford said. “I’m really proud at how they came out of the gate. I’m really proud of our transition game and how they played as a whole unit.”
Tayler Simmons notched the opening goal for the Canes, finishing the day with three goals and an assist. Caroline North had a team-high four goals with one helper, Zoey Pfeiffer had three goald and two assists, and Jasmine Jenkins and Alice Dwyer each struck the net twice. Dwyer added three assists, Pfeiffer and Anna Lynch offered two apiece, and Daisy Phelps threw in one.
Emi Harlow finished with three saves for Hartford, which visits St. Johnsbury on Friday.
