HANOVER, NH — Sandra Elin Liljeholm Maurer, 1937-2018.

Sandy passed away on December 5th, 2018. She was surrounded by her family. She was 81 years old.

Sandy was born on September 7th, 1937 to Edwin and Dorothy Liljeholm of Rensselaer, NY. She was a graduate of Albany Medical Center School of X-Ray Technology and worked as an x-ray technician until she was married to Dr. Lloyd Herbert Maurer of Forest Hills New York from 1962-1984. She moved to Hanover in 1964 where they started raising a family. They had 2 children; Erik born in 1963, and Julia born in 1965.

Sandy was first and foremost an amazing mother and grandmother. A champion of her children, a mother to all, an amazing cook, entertainer, costume maker, farmer, fisher-woman, gatekeeper, and volunteer of many causes throughout her tenure in Hanover and Etna since the 60’s. She appreciated antiques and fondly remembered her time being the prop lady for the North Country Community Theatre. She loved and was deeply attached to a steady stream of animals including cats, dogs, sheep, pigs, cows, ducks and chickens.

Sandy loved the beach and spent her entire childhood traveling from Albany, NY with her family to Saco, Maine to spend their summers, scrutinizing tidal pools and savoring Pine Point shrimp rolls. She had a strong sense of design and style, her homes were always warm in color and decor and made you feel welcome.

She is survived by her son Erik, his wife Mary, and their 3 children, Charlotte, Keating and Madigan of Waterford, VT; Her daughter Julie, her husband Tom Longstreth, and their 3 children, Hector, Ebbe, and Astrid of West Bolton, VT. She will be sorely missed.

A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, December 27th at the Norwich Inn in Norwich, Vermont from 2:00PM-4:00PM to share some coffee, cake and stories of Sandy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Upper Valley Haven. https://uppervalleyhaven.org/donate/online-giving/.
